tips for earning money (revised)

SL is indeed an attracting place which satisfies people’s desire of social life. But if you want to enjoy SL more, it’s necessary to have some linden money for kinds of needs. Several ways are provided in SL; however, for rookies, there are not many choices.
For one, based on the premise that you are already a land owner, you can run a club to have some commercial transactions with others. If you are not, you still can work for them. For those club owners, in order to gain great popularity, they will provide some jobs for rookies such as camping, mopping and dancing. Predictably, that will not offer high payoff. It averages 3L every ten minutes.
First, you can type “club” as a keyword in “Places” column to search. There are lots of clubs provided then you can choose any one of them to teleport, and each has different jobs offered. Keep your eyes open! Because of some clubs there are not legal at all.

As the picture above, I choose the FLASHBACKS CLUB. Crowded with varieties of people, night life in SL shares a great similarity to real life! After times of groping, I find out that all of the dancing pads are occupied. Also, there’s no camping chair left for me! I cannot help but choose mopping, the lowest payment in club. So I spend two hours but only earn L12!!

magical transformation!!! (revised)

If you are new in SL, avatars you can choose are less and all built-in. one avatar possesses his or her own outfit, you can merely change the color or length of their clothes. As you see in the picture above, I am the left one sitting on the sofa, a strange one with sagging bosom and big belly. Those green parts (leaves? or something else) and the weird helmet on her head are never taken off even hundred times of tries. Once I log in, this avatar appears on my screen, and that’s a really turnoff!
However, things changed since I met a friend in SL!

Last week when I was idling around in SL, I met a guy in a place which was randomly chosen. After a short conversation with him, I asked him whether he knows a way to change avatar. “Well, you can buy some new skin or clothes instead changing you avatar.” His precious words become a motive, helping me to start my transformation. Firstly, typing “free cloth” or “free skin” in the searching blank. Then it will appear lots of place which offer kinds of skin and countless suits. You can teleport to everywhere you like and try on different type of style. Some of them cost a lot, but most are cheap and even free. It indeed spends me time clicking those stuff one by one, but the process is interesting and of great worth.

It’s one of places offering free clothes

Look! It’s me after transformation! And all of those clothes are free! It’s really a big step I take in SL!

Organized comment on Gracie’s World Palette “Truth be told…”

writer: Gracie (Angelique Nayar)
reviewer: Cate (Catecha Inaka)

In Gracie’s “Foreigner Eye on Otaku Guy”, she declaims that she doesn’t log in SL other than class meeting result from her computer with poor graphic card. That is the truth she wants to share. Brigde of academic interaction - Cross-strait Organization

The idea of Cross-strait Organization is originated with Dr. Kai Sung. It’s an expansion evolved from “Cross-strait Academic Exchanges and Discussion” in National Central University. “Through this chance, students can directly get in touch with students from China then realize the similarities and dissimilarities between each other,” said Professor Sung. “Obviously, the future of the two sides across the Taiwan Strait must be built on mutual cooperation; thus, we aim our goal at cross-straits economics, culture and relationship.”

Dr. Kai Sung

As time goes by, Cross-strait Organization develops into two different types, “receptionist team” and “visitor team.” “Receptionist team” takes the responsibility to receive the students and teachers coming from China; on the other hand, “visitor team” goes China in person and spends ten or more days dealing with students of their same age there. Since established, Shenzhen University, Shan Tung University, Hua Chung University, etc…have regular and periodical team-visiting with National Central University so far. By to and fro every year, student’s relationship between two sides becomes close. There is no more politics or sensitive issues, the friendship among those students are simple and true.

Since organization’s members with kinds of characteristics come from different departments, you’ll see various sparkles exist in each group. Every receptionist team or visitor team, with different universities, has their specific topics to focus on. It may include Entrepreneurship or Originality Competition. Moreover, they hold various symposia to discuss their daily life, life philosophy and even the issues about politics. Unlike what depicted in the textbook, we are indeed similar to each other. Though living in different backgrounds, we learned from an analogous education system. Besides, we shared the value system alike.

Views from Chien-tsuen Chen, assistant of cross-strait organization…
Living under this political and military threat from China, also exaggerate statements by mass media, we somewhat might be influenced then feel hostility towards people in China; nevertheless, after having the real contact with students from there, my previous attitude changed! I experience the sincere relations between Taiwan and Chinese students. They learn how to think more widely in such a complicated cross-straight case and be mature towards things happened to them.

While facing the same issue, our students can always bring up interesting ideas and statements without much more thinking. On the other hand, student from China are a little bit serious sometimes. But this characteristic becomes an advantage on their studies. They are more cautious and active with school works; on the contrary, we Taiwanese students are opportunistic. Through teamwork culture, they always find the easiest way to overcome tough tasks. With multiple specialties, their learning become mutual and meaningful.

interview-revised

Chien-tsuen Chen, assistant of cross-strait organization

A: Does joining the cross-straight camp make your life different or inspire your values of life?
Q: Yes, of course.

A: Since being involved with so many teams, which team or activity impresses you the most? Why?
Q: Actually, every team has their own distinguishing features such as planning ability or communication skills. Since our members with kinds of characteristics come from different departments, you’ll see various sparkles happened on them; therefore, it’s really hard to tell which team I like the best. I like every one of them!!

A: What’s the difference between students of two sides?
Q: In my opinion, I think Taiwanese students are more creative than China’s. They always find the easiest way to pass the exams and tough tasks.

A: What can attract an Otaku to sign up for the cross-straight team?
Q: We have many members so called “Otaku” in our team. Like what you depict, they spend lots of time on on-line games and don’t pay much attention on their appearance; however, obviously, they really excel at computer stuff! They can file the minute and complicated document well through computer. We need their skill and concentration on works. In cross-straight organization, they not only can give full play to their ability but have more chances to deal with people instead of on-line games.

A: What’s the possible development of cross-strait organization in the future?
Q: Speaking of the development, Professor Sung and I indeed develop some proposals and several of them are put in practice in certain extent. I’m quite not sure what cross-straight organization might be, but you students’ vigor are definitely our sources to grow.

organized comments on “Foreigner Eye on Otaku Guy”

In Gracie’s “Foreigner Eye on Otaku Guy”, our group suggest that the more clear definition to Otaku is better. Every different culture may have a word bears a similar meaning to another’s but exists a little difference indeed. To Japanese and Taiwan, Otaku might be negative; on the contrary, in other country, it might be neutral or even positive.
Still, drawing a conclusion in the last paragraph will be better.

[1:13] Jacqueline Maven: to connect with our otaku topic?
[1:15] Angelique Nayar: yep
[1:15] Jacqueline Maven: gracie's interview is nearly done
[1:16] Jacqueline Maven: we can wait for her~
[1:17] Angelique Nayar: and we can have a little break
[1:17] Benben Pelazzi: hmm
[1:17] Benben Pelazzi: so who's going to be the next?
[1:17] Jacqueline Maven: i think it's gracie~~
[1:20] Angelique Nayar: my article is based on how foreigners think of the Otaku culture
[1:22] Benben Pelazzi: have you posted on the blog?
[1:22] Angelique Nayar: so Queer Eye on the Straight Guy which broadcasted at U.S. and U.K is probably the closest to mine news
[1:23] Angelique Nayar: not yet but I think I should give you some outline first so that our discussion is more efficient
[1:23] Benben Pelazzi: ok
[1:24] Angelique Nayar: so this could be applied to Nelson's case~
[1:24] Benben Pelazzi: mm ok
[1:38] Angelique Nayar: OK i'M DONE
[1:39] Benben Pelazzi: ok
[1:39] Jacqueline Maven: so lets discuss that
[1:41] Angelique Nayar: http://graciesworldpalette.blogspot.com/
[1:44] Benben Pelazzi: what's RQ?
[1:45] Benben Pelazzi: maybe you can draw a conclusion to the last paragraph
[1:45] Angelique Nayar: BEN~http://www.ncu.edu.tw/billboard01.php?bid=7549
[1:46] Angelique Nayar: show this to Nelson for joining ENg Cafe
[1:46] catecha Inaka: yeah, conclusion is necessary
[1:48] catecha Inaka: so americans called them nerd, japanese called otaku, did they have some differences or not
[1:48] catecha Inaka: maybe there's some difference you could ask
[1:49] catecha Inaka: like otaku is on-line addict
[1:49] catecha Inaka: but nerds are addicted in books
[1:50] catecha Inaka: maybe the definition should be clarified more
[1:50] Angelique Nayar: OK
[1:50] catecha Inaka: that's my suggestion

organized comment on "NCU Has it ALL!"

The OIA of NCU provides an interesting and also effective program to those international students on campus. This program not only focuses on Chinese courses but spare no efforts immersing them into Chinese culture. Instead of grammar or words, language-learning should be involved with cultural-exposing. Aside from textbook, the environment and daily talks can help a language-learner progress more; however, our English educational system seems to go the opposite way. For better proficiency, we Taiwan student should take a more correct attitude toward language-learning.

Cross-Strait Organization
